CERTIFICATE IN VITICULTURE WINE AND FOOD

    Aims of programme:

    Provide students with skills to enter all aspects of the wine industry.

    Course content:

    50% Viticulute: 57 NZQA credits (propagation, vineyard establishment, training, pruning, tractor and machinery work, harvesting)
    20% Winemaking skill: 5 NZQA credits (cellarhand activities, making wine)
    30% Hospitality Skills (includes NZQA 845/846 Basic Beverage service and Professional wine service, NZQA 848 Bar Service, NZQA841 Restaurant skills, wine appreciation and knowledge, food with wine, customer relations)

    How long?:

    15 months (spans 2 vintages) includes 12 weeks cooperative industry experience.

    How much?:

    Approx.$1975 study right, $2185 non study right for first year and then 1/4 the following year.

    Where to after the course?:

    Vineyard workers/supervisors, winery cellarhands, vineyard restaurants, wine outlets, wine representatives and promotions, tourism (wine trails), overseas experience in vineyards/wineries, general hotel/restaurant work.
