One of the most repeated
questions about Wales is with regard to the longest place name, well here
it is along with the translation :
Llanfair-pwll-gwyngyll-gogerych-wyndrobwll-llantysilio-gogogoch
"St. Mary's church in a hollow - white hazels - near to the rapid whirlpool
- St. Tysil's Church - red cave."
In everyday use it is usually referred to as Llanfair PG. Another Welsh
place name was "created" some years ago and although longer is not usually
recognised. There is some argument about the New Zealand place name, which
is longer, but the Welsh one is an inhabited village whereas the Kiwi
one is a hill in the North Island.
