Aotearoa Independence Movement National Launch

Saturday January 27th

Nativity Centre, 76 Alfred Street, central Blenheim

The launch will be on that afternoon, following on from the Anti-Bases Campaign’s:

Waihopai Spybase Protest

10 a.m. Waihopai spy base outer gate, Waihopai Valley Road

(see below for details of that).

The Aotearoa Independence Movement (AIM) is a campaign, not an organisation. Our purpose is to initiate and drive a nationwide dialogue to advance the case for a non-aligned Aotearoa based on policies of economic, military and political independence.

The AIM programme details (such as times for speakers, workshops and the film) for the afternoon of Saturday January 27th are still being worked out but what we can tell you thus far are:

  • Murray Horton will speak about AIM
  • Keith Locke, keynote speaker on: What a truly independent NZ foreign policy would look like
  • Bill Rosenberg, keynote speaker, on: What a people-friendly globalisation would look like

There will be plenty of time for people to split into groups, based on where they come from, to discuss how to build and implement the AIM campaign in their city or town. The day will conclude with a screening of John Pilger’s excellent 113 minute 2016 documentary "The Coming War On China". Lunch and tea will be provided.

So, a morning protest at the base, an afternoon of organisational and campaign-oriented workshops with nationally known speakers and a thought-provoking film to round off the day. Make sure you register in advance (details below) so that we know how many to expect for the AIM launch. We also need to know numbers in advance for catering purposes.

We are planning to run the workshops on geographical lines, to group people together to discuss how best to build the AIM campaign in their city, town or area.

To register for AIM's National Launch, please e-mail cafca@chch.planet.org.nz, subject line: I Will Be Attending AIM's National Launch, and include your name, address, and e-mail, phone and mobile details.
